JAKS story begins in the early 1970’s, when the young Ang Ken Seng first started out in the residential plumbing business.

Barely a decade later, our founder had expanded his capabilities into water pipe laying for property developers in the Klang Valley.

By 1987, having completed several projects for large clients such as Jabatan Bekalan Air Selangor, IJM Corporation, PATI, Kulim Enterprise Sdn Bhd and Kien Tat Enterprise Sdn Bhd, the company Datuk Ang Ken Seng & Sons Sdn Bhd was set up to specialise in medium-scale water reticulation works, pipelaying and the construction of elevated tanks.

Further expansion continued in 1992, when Pipe Technology System Sdn Bhd was created to supply mild steel pipes and fittings to the construction side of the business. Based in Bentong, Pahang, the factory commenced operations in 1996 with a manufacturing capacity of 30,000 tonnes of mild steel pipes per annum.

1998 brought a partnership with Dato’ Jamian Mohamad, and the creation of JAKS Sdn Bhd. in. JAKS business operations grew to include extensive pipe laying and reservoir contracts, the designing and construction of sewerage treatment facilities, and civil engineering works.

Another milestone came in 2001, when JAKS embarked upon a joint venture with Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB), the investment arm of the Selangor State Planning and Development Unit. The resulting joint venture company, JAKS-KDEB Consortium Sdn Bhd, currently handles a 10-year supply contract with the Selangor State Government.

To cater for our increasing need for steel pipes, we opened another manufacturing facility, incorporated under the name Integrated Pipe Industries Sdn Bhd in 2002. With a production capacity of 120,000 tonnes of mild steel per annum, it employs state-of-the-art German technology to produce a wide range of pipe products from 100mm in diameter up to 3000mm in diameter. Sitting on 50 acres of land in Pulau Indah, Selangor; this plant includes fully-equipped testing laboratories, ensuring stringent quality control for defect-free manufacturing.

The latest development has been JAKS 2004 acquisition of Wing Tiek Steel Pipe Sdn Bhd. Subsequently renamed JAKS Steel Industries Sdn Bhd, this acquisition further complements and completes our pipe manufacturing capabilities.

We have now been listed on the main board of the Malaysian Stock Exchange. Not content to rest upon our laurels, we have plans in the works for further expansion both locally and internationally.
